Title: Designing Effective Cross-disciplinary Inquiry is Not a Boring Matter


Abstract

Carefully designed questions and statements are effective for gathering essential data-driven qualitative and quantitative research, surveys, smile-sheets, and employment interview questions that help organizations flourish.

All too often, poorly designed inquiry such as double-barreled, auxiliary verb, and the verb-to-be questions can prevent individuals from providing valuable information that inhibits the desired results. The limitations of poorly crafted inquiry include the message itself, unnecessary jargon, confusing tasks, burden of time, and questions that prevent individuals from giving details.

Not creating dynamic queries can inhibit well-intended research from being published, prevent improvements in social science programs, and reduce the recruitment of talented people in organizations. This workshop will provide valuable information on how to design questions and statements for desired results without boring the audience. Participants will explore practical strategies for developing questions based on their intended needs for data-driven results. This workshop will also be useful for delegates presenting at the Okinawa 2019 International Conference on Education, Economics, Psychology, and Sociology to ask and answer queries effectively during their presentations.


Dr. Stacey Vye is an associate professor at Saitama University. Her research interests are exploring reflections about university students' perceptions of English language learning in Japan, learner confidence, and learner and teacher motivation of all ages. She was an adjunct teacher’s assistant and adjunct professor at Teachers College Columbia University where she holds an M.A. in teaching English. She earned her doctoral degree in 2018 at the University of Southern California (USC), Rossier School of Education in Organizational Change and Leadership. She was previously on the Learner Development SIG Committee of the Japan Association of Language Teachers (JALT) for many years in various capacities including co-coordinator.
